Beginning Cyr Wheel Mini Series

with guest teacher Loki White!

Sundays May 22, and 29th 6-7pm

$45 for both classes
$25 for a drop-in

Class Description:

Interested in Cyr Wheel? Then come take this class. If you’ve never touched one? Perfect, you’re welcome here. You can waltz but need help going upside down? Perfect, you’re welcome here. All levels of cyr wheel are welcome because learning cyr wheel is a personal journey. There is no way we can all learn the same thing the same way. For each person what finally makes cyr wheel click will be completely different than the person next to them. My class is designed to work with each person where they are whether that is advanced or brand new.
What is cyr wheel? Cyr wheel at a basic level is a giant, really heavy hoola hoop that you will likely never hoola hoop. Instead of you spinning it, it spins you. It is one of the few circus arts friendly to those scared of heights as its performed on the ground.

Workshops with Special Guest Teacher, Kari Hunter!

Cloudswing: June 18th 2-3:30 $45
Come swing your way to aerial bliss! Static clouswing is one of Kari’s favorite aerial disciplines to perform and share. In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of how the clouswing can move, a variety of mounts, dynamic skills, and elegant transitions. There’s so much room for technique and creativity on the cloudswing.

Duo Aerial: June 18th 4-5:30 $45
Aerial is twice as fun with a friend! In this duo aerial workshop, we’ll start with a foundation of partner communication and technique, and learn skills in a variety of basing positions, as well as side-by-side and mirroring partner moves. Class will begin on trapeze, and progress to silks. Come solo or with your circus pal!
Both Workshops for $80

Kari is also available for private lessons in beginner to intermediate rope, fabric, trapeze, and duo aerial (no release moves), all levels sling and cloudswing and act refinement. $70/hr for one person, $80 for two. Please reach out to us to schedule a lesson.

Drawing from a background in dance, gymnastics, theater, and music, Kari has been training, performing and coaching circus arts since 2001. Her coaching credits include the Circus Guild, Versatile Arts, Emerald City Trapeze, Le Cirque Centre, the Circus Center (San Francisco), New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA), and the School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts (SANCA) where she served as lead aerial coach for the Professional Preparatory Program. Deemed an “aerialist par excellence” by the Seattle Times, Kari has graced the stage in over 30 major U.S. cities and internationally with the Seattle Opera, Pallazo Variety, Freidrichsbau Variety (Germany), Festival Burlesco (Portugal), and Teatro Zinzanni (Seattle and San Francisco), among others.

“I got to see Kari perform once at the Moisture Festival in Seattle. She was amazing and I was very inspired by her work on static cloudswing, which I’d never seen before. We are so lucky she is visiting us!”
